Street Style: Shorts

And we mean shorts – not culottes, Capri’s or cut offs – we’re talking thigh skimming here. As seen at Marc by Marc Jacobs, 3:1 Phillip Lim and Isabel Marant. And look how these ladies in New York rocked them. Perfection.

To carry them off with confidence, tone those legs by walking instead of getting the lift or escalator at the train station, get off the bus one stop early or go for a brisk walk in your lunch hour.

For a casual look, wear like these ladies or with flats and a boyfriend blazer.

In the office wear with chunky platforms and fine knit jersey. And put on some opaques if your legs are blotchy or you forgot to shave.

Pleats Please.

Richard Nicoll S/S 2011

Any kind of pleat, gather or drape will do. Create movement as you move.

It’s all White.

Dsquared2

Stay away from red wine and small children. Don’t over accessorise, a tan belt or a pair of nude heels are all you need.

Spring Trends: 100 under £100 Part 2

Attention at the back!

Backless at Dior S/S 2011

The Spring collections showed off a lot of back so before you bare all, invest in a body mitt and buff your back to perfection. And if you’re anything above a B cup, you might want to invest in a backless, strapless bra to keep the girls under control!

A sea of blue

Harper's Bazaar magazine
Akris S/S 2011

We’re going to fall hard for this one as pretty much any shade of blue will work with a brown tinged skin. (That said, stay away from baby blue if you’re over 7 years old). Think turquoise, navy or cobalt and match with coral or black. We think we’re going to enjoy wearing shades of blue from head to toe.

Mini Trend: Bright Bags

If the thought of colour blocking brings you out in a cold sweat – it’s hard for us to imagine an outfit that isn’t based around black either – then add some zing with a colourful bag! Doesn’t matter if it’s a bucket bag, a satchel (very now), a large clutch (even more now) or a plain old rucksack, a little bit of colour goes a long way. Besides; it’s Spring – it won’t hurt to try!

Je T’aime: Animal Print

We love a bit of animal print. Be careful not to overindulge, we’re not trying to channel Bet Lynch from Corrie so don't wear it head to toe; we’re more thinking sleek, sophisticated Cannes type glamour. These bits caught our eye.

Stella McCartney. Was £325, now £158

Weekend by Maxmara. £68

Ted Baker. £150

D&G Clutch. £210

Spring/Summer 2011 Style Guide

Nice free Style Guide found on mywardobe.com listing all the trends you need to know for this coming season – our faves are Seventies Woman and Colour Blocking.

70s style at Gucci
Colour blocking at Paul & Joe

Not many of us can afford to purchase our whole outfit from the Style Guide, but a few key pieces we feel are worth spending money on if they’ll see us through the Summer and transition our wardrobe nicely into Autumn/Winter. We’re thinking anything with flowers on and mannish trousers. Happy browsing!

Paul Smith cardigan. £167

Levi's chinos. £75
